How often should I have a massage?
As long as you do not have any contraindications to massage therapy, you could receive one every day.  At Karing Therapeutic Massage, each client is treated differently according to their needs for massage.   You may be recommended to come in weekly, every two weeks, or on a monthly basis.  I will recommend a plan based on your individual wellness needs that best fits into your lifestyle.  I do highly recommend that clients receive a massage at least on a monthly basis in order to continue preventive maintenance.

Is it normal to be sore or in pain after my massage?
Soreness is completely normal after a massage. During your massage your muscles are being manipulated and when the pressure used is deep enough, soreness will occur, especially if your body is not used to receiving massages.  Just like a new workout, it takes your body time to adjust, usually by the fourth massage.   It is very important that you communicate with me while you are on the table and let me know how you are feeling during your session.  If the pressure is too much, or not enough, please let me know!  You should never feel uncomfortable at any time, providing me with feedback only helps me to make your visit more enjoyable.  The session is about you, and you only.  During a massage, you may feel some tenderness and that is normal, just try to take some deep breaths.   To reduce soreness, please follow all recommendations I give you after your session.  I may ask you to ice and heat as well as stretch.  It all depends on the condition of the client.  It is very important to drink plenty of water afterwards, this will help with any soreness you may be experiencing.

What is the atmosphere like and what to expect my first time there?
At Karing Therapeutic Massage, it is important that I create a relaxing and calming environment for you.  Unlike receiving a massage at a Chiropractor or doctor's office, Karing was designed to feel and look like a Spa, while giving you therapeutic treatment.  I ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your session, to relax and fill out an intake form.  No one likes the feeling of rushing.  I will then go over everything with you about the massage and make sure we are both on the same page as far as meeting your goals for the session.    I want you to feel comfortable during your experience at Karing Therapeutic Massage.  For the atmosphere, providing earthy tones, dim lighting, and relaxing music, I encourage you to close your eyes and relax.  Afterwards I invite you to stay a few minutes and unwind, sit and drink your water, or listen to the music.  No need to rush out the door.  The next hour(s) is about you.  Enjoy it!

What if Iā€™m late?
Late arrivals of 15 minutes or more will receive the remainder of their session time. You will still be charged the full session price if you are late.  I encourage you to call if you are running late, and in emergency circumstances, I will be more then happy to reschedule your appointment at no charge.  Due to any inclement weather, if the office is closed, you will be notified and I will be happy to reschedule your appointment.

Do you take walk ins?
I do not take walk ins, however, you can always call to see if I have any same day appointments available.

Can a minor receive a massage?
Yes if someone is under the age of 18, they need to have a parent/guardian fill out a consent form and will also have to be present with them at all times during their session.

Why do I have to drink water after a massage?
During your massage, your body is releasing toxins from your muscles while lengthening them. These toxins flow into your lymphatic system.  By drinking water immediately after a massage, you are helping your lymphatic system flush the toxins out of your body.  Drinking plenty of water before and after your session will also reduce muscle soreness.  Our muscles need to stay hydrated, just like we do.

What do I wear for a massage?
It is all about comfort when receiving a massage!  When you come for your appointment, you wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.  During your massage session, I will step out of the room and allow you to disrobe.  Some clients remove all articles of clothing including undergarments, while others prefer to leave undergarments on.  It is completely about your comfort level.  You are always covered with a sheet and blanket, and the table is heated to make sure you are always warm.  After you are all settled and ready, I will then knock before I re-enter the room.  During your massage, a sheet draping technique is used. This technique ensures that I respect your modesty and only expose the specific regions of the body I am working on.   I assure you that my priority is to have every client feel at ease here at Karing Therapeutic Massage.

What is the cancellation policy?
I realize that emergency situations do arise and appreciate a phone call at any time.  I respectfully ask that you give at least 24 hours notice if you must cancel an appointment.

How much should I tip my therapist?
A 20% gratuity is customary in the massage/spa industry.  All gratuities are appreciated, however, they may be given at your discretion based on your service.

Can I use my cell phone?
I want to create a relaxing environment, so I do ask that you turn off your cell phone while visiting me.  An hour or two without any disruption, is going to help make your experience that much greater.  Remember this is your time, not anyone else's.

Do you do refunds?
I do not do refunds for gift certificates or massage packages.  My gift certificates expire 1 year after the purchase date and can be redeemed by someone else if you do not wish to use it.  If you are unsatisfied with your service at Karing Therapeutic Massage for any reason, please let me know.  My promise to all my clients, is to give 100% of my best, each and every time!  If I am not doing that, please bring it to my attention.
